Attention Swifties: there is a pretty strong chance everyone's favorite pop princess is joining the MCU as Dazzler, a retired pop star who can turn sound into light — the perfect role for her if you ask us.
In a recent interview at CinemaCon with Entertainment Tonight, director Shawn Levy addressed rumors that Swift is set to make a surprise appearance in the upcoming Marvel film Deadpool and Wolverine. When asked about the rumor, the director replied, "I can't even believe that you would dare ask me a question you know I can't answer. All of America knows I can't answer that."
Then, he teased, "But I will say, as I said earlier here at CinemaCon, the proliferation of rumors about who is and isn't in this movie is fabulous because no one will ever know the truth until July 26th."
The interviewer took this as confirmation that Swift is indeed set to play Dazzler. "So Taylor Swift is Dazzler," he said. Levy held his ground, saying, "That is hardly confirmed nor denied in this interview. I'm going to literally walk out of the frame and save myself, otherwise, Ryan's taking a hit on me."
OK, so Levy certainly didn't confirm the rumors — but he most definitely did not deny them either.
Fans have been tossing around the idea that Swift could be Dazzler for months now. The theory began when fans noticed that the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was filmed in the same place as Swift's music video for "All Too Well".
As Swifties know, the pop star loves to drop an Easter egg or two. Ryan Gosling, who plays Deadpool in the film, laughed off the rumor during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. However, he did add that he would "of course" love it if Swift were in the film. "Are you kidding me?" he said. "I would do anything for that woman. She's a genius."
The rumors continued when Swift brought most of the Deadpool & Wolverine creative team with her to a Kansas City Chiefs game in October 2023.
Although Levy didn't confirm the rumor, his refusal to deny it speaks volumes. We can only hope Swift really is preparing to dazzle us all with a surprise appearance in the MCU. But as Levy said, we'll just have to wait until July 26 to find out.
